That Stump Is a Bigger Problem Than You Think

Most homeowners don't realize how many issues a leftover stump causes — until they've been living with one for a while.

Termite & Pest Magnet

Rotting stumps are prime real estate for termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles. Once they move in, they don't stop at the stump — they look for the nearest structure.

Snake Habitat

Hollow stumps and the root systems underneath are a favorite nesting spot for copperheads and other snakes common in Middle Tennessee. Not what you want near kids or pets.

Mowing Nightmare

Mowing around a stump wastes time every single week. Hidden surface roots can catch mower blades and cause costly damage. One grinding job ends the problem permanently.

Trip & Liability Hazard

Stumps and raised roots are a trip hazard for kids, guests, and elderly family members. If someone gets hurt on your property, you own that liability.

Kills Curb Appeal

A stump in the front yard is the first thing buyers and guests notice. It signals neglect and can drag down property value. Removing it is one of the fastest curb appeal improvements you can make.

It Keeps Growing Back

Many stumps sprout new shoots every spring, especially oaks and maples. You'll be cutting them back indefinitely — or just get rid of the problem once and for all.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does stump grinding take?

Most residential stumps take 15–45 minutes depending on size. A typical single-stump job is usually done in under an hour including setup and cleanup. Multi-stump jobs are priced and scheduled by the day.

How deep do you grind?

Standard grinding goes 6–10 inches below grade, which is deep enough to allow grass to grow over the area and prevents regrowth in most species. Deeper grinding (12"+) is available for an additional charge if needed for construction or landscaping.

What happens to the wood chips and grindings?

The grindings are left on-site and can be used as mulch, or we can spread them out. If you'd prefer them removed entirely, let us know when you request your quote. There is typically no extra charge to leave the grindings in place — we rake the area clean before we leave.

Do I need to call 811 before you come out?

Tennessee law requires utility lines to be marked at least 3 business days before any digging. We handle the 811 notification process for you — just fill out the form on this page and we'll take care of it. We won't grind until the area is cleared.

Will stump grinding damage my lawn or sprinkler system?

Our equipment is designed to minimize lawn impact. We operate the grinder carefully and avoid unnecessary passes. We strongly recommend calling 811 before the job to ensure no irrigation or utility lines run beneath the stump area — this protects both your system and our equipment.

Can you grind stumps close to a fence, house, or driveway?

Yes — tight access is something we handle regularly. As long as there's enough clearance to bring in the equipment (typically a 36" gate opening minimum), we can work very close to structures. We'll assess access during the free estimate visit.

Do tree stumps really attract termites and snakes?

Yes. Rotting wood is a prime food source and habitat for termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring insects — all of which can spread to nearby structures. Hollow stumps and the root cavities underneath are also a favorite nesting spot for copperheads and other snakes common in Middle Tennessee, especially during warmer months.

How much does stump grinding cost in Franklin, TN?

Pricing is based on stump diameter measured at ground level. Small stumps (up to 12") typically run $150–$200. Medium stumps (12–24") run $200–$350. Large stumps (24"+) are quoted on-site. We offer multi-stump discounts and a $1,800/day flat rate for commercial or property management jobs. All estimates are free and confirmed on-site.
